Storytime at the Library

A child is never too young to learn to read.  In fact, research shows that reading to young children from birth significantly increases their chances of thriving in school.  It is through the sharing of books and language that young children develop the reading skills needed to be ready to read.  Through its seasonal storytime series, the Ascension Parish Library introduces young children to letters, words, and sounds through a variety of fun-filled programs designed to help foster early literacy skills.  Library storytimes are rich with activities designed to entertain and introduce young children to the English language.

This spring, the Ascension Parish Library starts its next series of storytime programs for young children.  Four types of storytimes are offered based on the needs of the developing child:

Lap-sit Storytime

Toddler Storytime

Preschool Storytime

Bilingual Storytime

Registration is required for all storytimes. Parents can register their child in advance by either calling or visiting the library.  For more information on these fun-filled, educational programs, please contact the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, in Galvez at 622-3339, or in Dutchtown at 673-8699.

  1. Dear Community of Ascension Parish,

This year Anointed Hands Salon & More, LLC is partnering with Divine Care Services, a non-profit organization, to host the 2nd annual “Back to School in Style Event”. Local Stylist, Barbers, Professionals, Businesses and Volunteers are teaming up, donating their time and resources to provide free hair care services, school supplies, health, safety & hygiene products and education.

All children ages 5 to 15 are welcome. Services include a shampoo and style or blow dry for young ladies, hair cuts for young men and mini manicures. The children will also be taught hair care techniques, proper hygiene and grooming, and nutrition for healthy hair and body. Parents and kids will be educated on internet safety for kids and receive tips from licensed counselors on dealing with behavioral issues.

We are asking for your support in all forms; cash donation, school supplies, personal care items, volunteers, snacks, etc, no donation is too small. Sponsor acknowledgments and a free advertisement will be placed in our Ad Booklet for all contributions, and your contributions are tax deductible.

All contributions are greatly appreciated and needed as soon as possible; arrangements can be made to pick up donations from your office or place of business.
